How to Receive an Intuitive Reading

How to Receive a Reading: Our Contract Together

Readings can be inspiring. They can be soul-shaking or up-lifting fun. But how do you know what to expect? Here are some tips when preparing for a reading with me.

Be ready to hear it all

Just as there is an art to giving a reading, there’s an art to receiving. Before deciding to get a reading, ask yourself, is the right time in your life to hear what the intuitive has to offer? A really good reading can be extraordinarily deep. Depth comes with insights, hard and delightful, painful and illuminating. Intuitive practitioners can’t craft or choose the information they receive. They have to “give what they get” from spirit and intuition. Be sure you are in a place to hear what the reader has to say.

But wait—What’s an intuitive reading?

We are all intuitive. I don’t have a special gift. I just practice a lot. Even if you’ve never thought of yourself as intuitive, you’ve probably met someone with whom you instantly connected, had a sense that something was going to happen and it did, or heard your name being called, but saw no one near. These are instances of intuition. When I’m looking into your energy field, I see images. I hear and see language. I use my senses to feel into your energy. At first, the reading is full of symbolic information that I unfold, using the analogy of the Russian doll wherein images are hidden within images. In the second part of the reading, the core of the reading, we work together to further unfold those sights, sounds, and feelings to apply our insights directly to your life. The first part of the reading, wherein I read your energy centers, takes about 10 to fifteen minutes. The second part is the actual reading. We can go as deep as you like during our time.

Choose a practitioner with whom you feel connected

Am I the right reader for you? I may be right for your best friend, but not a connection for you. Although it’s rare not to connect, it can happen. Feel into this question. Choose someone who feels like a good fit for you. If I don’t seem to be that person, or if you aren’t inspired by the way I practice, ask people you trust for recommendations until you find the right reader for you. I have to tell you that I am very direct and will tell you exactly what I hear, see, and sense.

Readings are great at crossroads

A reading can be helpful in times of confusion and doubt, when you are at a crossroads, when you aren’t sure what you think. A reading can be fun when you’re in a good place too. My readings are highly focused on helping you realize the magnitude of your gifts. But as part of that quest, we may also see aspects of your life that hold you back from expansion. These may be painful parts of your life. Remember that if we can be aware of where we are self-limiting, we can change and grow.  It’s never my intention to cause you pain, to hurt or offend you. My intention is to alleviate pain through growth. My readings can feel psychological or probing. This may not be what you are looking for. I ask you to consider this before booking a reading. A reading with me may not be for you at this time. There are many good readers who offer predictions, who work with astrology, the Akashic records, and who work in other modalities and styles that may be better suited to your needs.

Know that you are in charge of the reading. You can ask questions and shift the flow of the reading. Please do what works for you! If you find yourself resistant to the reading, disconnected to the information, or that the reading is unhelpful, we can conclude the reading. I’ll send your or the person who gifted you the reading money back. It’s not problem at all! It will take 3 to 7 business days for the money to charge back to your credit card.

Make sure you have the time you need

Choose a day when you have time for the reading and time to reflect. I ask that you please not snack, eat a meal, drive, answer texts, or drink alcohol during the reading. These are highly charged, sacred experiences for me and ideally for you. After a reading, you may want to eat, relax, and enjoy a period of reflection. Try to choose a time when you don’t have to rush to your next activity. Because the readings are deep and can be emotional, some people find that they are sleepy or tired afterward.

Record, draw, write, respond

My readings are filled with sights, sounds, images, words and feelings that I am receiving at the same time you are receiving them. I encourage you to take notes, to draw if you like. I can also record for you and send you your reading on Dropbox or WeTransfer. I do ask that refrain from publishing or uploading your reading to social media. Thank you for understanding the privacy and delicacy of the exchange.

Receiving a reading on Zoom or FaceTime

Many people wonder if a reading online is as good as a reading in person. I find that distance readings may be better than readings in person, because you don’t have to drive; you can be in your home, rest, eat, and be quiet afterwards. If you are receiving a reading using your phone, please be sure to have a holder for the phone. (Even a stack of books will do.) You won’t be able to hold it up for an hour or hour and a half. You may not know it, but when you move the phone it can create noise that makes reading and recording difficult. Headphones help immensely with the quality of the call on Zoom in particular. You probably want to find a good place to rest your back as well.

And as an added note, social media, transfer sites and other online platforms are never fully secure. The audio file will expire on WeTransfer within three months of being uploaded. I can also delete your reading, if requested.

What if you don’t resonate with your reading?

When I’m a client sitting for a reading, I experience a range of emotions from elation, sadness, irritation, tenderness, confusion, and even shock. I may not immediately like the information I hear, but I may need to hear it. It may even take me a few days to process. People generally come for readings for help, and help can sometimes entail dealing with difficult material. This isn’t always pleasurable. But if you truly feel that the reading doesn’t make sense to you, tell me right away. As part of my code of ethics, I will return your money. It may take 3-7 business days for you to receive the return. I do encourage you to take a moment to process and to ask for clarification before reflexly rejecting your reading during the process.

I’m not a medium, healer, shaman, or medical medium

Although I do feel deeply connected to spirit, I’ve chosen to center my practice on helping people realize the vastness of their gifts. Yes, entities, ancestors, family members, and people who have crossed over do come in, but I have not built my practice on these connections. There are many stunningly gifted people who do this work, and I encourage you to seek them out. A note about connections with ancestors. In my experience, ancestors come when necessary, but not always on command. You can also connect with ancestors privately.

Remember, this is your reading, not anyone else’s

It is very common to want to know about another person, a place, an opportunity. I welcome your questions, but remember I am reading you. Anyone who steps into the dome of your reading comes in relation to your conscious and unconscious connections, and the reading will reflect your feelings about them. I cannot read for a person who is not present and thus cannot consent to be read.  Please be mindful of this when considering sharing insights about another person. I am reading you and your feelings, not theirs.

My no advice policy

I am dedicated to giving you my impressions, insights and feelings. Naturally, I cannot advise you on how to conduct your life. I try hard not tell you what to do or to answer questions with a “yes” or “no.” We’re complicated. I respect that.

And lastly—-You are magnificent!

One of the hardest things for most of us to grasp is just how powerful, beautiful, gifted, wild, creative, smart, sexy, inventive, potent and expansive we really are. I wish I could invent a pair of glasses that you could use to see you as I see you. You are worlds, constellations, memories, human and non-human influences, colors, and impressions, full of vitality.  You aren’t your job, or your relationships, or even your body, but an array of overlapping, ever-changing facets of Selves. Most of us are taught to dim our lights, to doubt our sometimes deeply buried knowledge of who we are. We often spend our lives ambivalent about who we are and what we want do on this planet at this time. I have felt the same. That’s why I’m thrilled to do the work I do. I want you to feel, to know, the vastness and importance of your presence and to activate that presence with affection and care for yourself. That love will extend to others.
